Sports

Deerfield may not have sports teams in school, but we do participate in several athletic events in the City of Irvine!  Each one of these sports is only possible with parent volunteers and teacher/staff support.  The PTA helps recruit our young athletes, willing parent volunteers and sets up hydration/snack tent at the events.

The OC Youth Sports • Tournament of Champions is a school-based series of tournaments that raises funds to support Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF). Sports include soccer, flag football, basketball and volleyball.  These tournaments gives kids the opportunity to represent their school, learn to play, have fun and compete against other O.C. schools as part of the Tournament of Champions.

Volleyball

The Volley Fest is an annual inter-school volleyball tournament played each year in November. Presented by SoCal Elite Sports for Deerfield grades 5 & 6. Tournament dates: October 25-26, 2025.

Soccer

The Harvest Cup is an annual inter-school soccer tournament played each year in December. Presented by SoCal Reds FC for Deerfield grades 3 thru 6.  Tournament Dates: December 5-6, 2026.

Flag Football

The Winter Bowl is an annual inter-school flag football tournament played each year in January at the Great Park in Irvine, CA.  Presented by Matt Leinart Flag Football for Deerfield grades 3 thru 6. Tournament dates: January 25, 2026.

Basketball

The Hoops Classic is an annual inter-school basketball tournament played each year in March.   Presented by SoCal Elite Sports for Deerfield grades 3 thru 6. Tournament dates: March 7-8 and 14-15, 2026.

Deerfield dashers

This is a weekly running club for grades 3-6 that culminates at Kids Run the OC! (KROC) on Saturday, May 2, 2026.  During the 12-week KROC program, kids will accumulate 25+ miles towards their personal ‘marathon’ through various games and activities with the coach at their school. Together, they will run the Final Mile Event during OC Marathon weekend and celebrate their accomplishment!  

Irvine Junior games

Irvine Junior Games is presented by Irvine Children’s Fund Fundraising Track & Field Event.  Our students grades 4-6 train for various track & field events with the coach at their school.  The date has not been finalized for 2026 yet, however in early May they will participate in various events at Irvine Stadium (behind Irvine High School).
